Our Feelings as Fathers Are Not Understood, Says Pratik Gandhi

Actor Pratik Gandhi recently opened up about his disappointment over not getting paternity leave when his daughter was born. In an interview, he mentioned that at that time, he was working in the corporate sector, and paternity leave was not even a concept in India.

“I understand that a mother goes through immense physical and emotional changes, and she absolutely deserves leave. But when you become a father for the first time, there are so many emotions inside you that you can’t even express,” Pratik said.

He stated, “I wanted to be with my daughter, but everywhere I was asked why I needed leave. The baby was so small; they advised me to finish my work.”

Currently, Pratik Gandhi is in the spotlight for his upcoming film Dhoom Dham, which revolves around arranged marriages. While many people today believe that the institution of marriage is fading, Pratik disagrees with the notion. He believes that marriage is a beautiful part of life.

In addition to Dhoom Dham, Pratik Gandhi is set to portray renowned social reformers in his upcoming projects, playing Jyotiba Phule in Phule and Mahatma Gandhi in the web series Gandhi. When asked about one societal issue he wants to change, he emphasized cleanliness.

“The biggest change that should happen is cleanliness in our surroundings. It’s such a basic thing, yet we have normalized filth. No one even cares anymore. Even animals instinctively clean the place before sitting, but we litter wherever we sit. What’s worse is that we unknowingly teach this to the next generation—eating chocolates and throwing the wrapper anywhere, spitting in public, dumping garbage randomly. This really bothers me. I don’t know when things will improve,” he concluded.
