Dr. Rooma Sinha Crosses 1,000 Robotic Surgeries, Becomes India’s Leading Gynaecological Robotic Surgeon

Dr. Rooma Sinha, Senior Consultant in Gynaecology and Robotic Surgery at Apollo Hospitals, has achieved a remarkable milestone by completing over 1,000 robotic surgeries for benign gynaecological conditions. According to the hospital, this makes her the highest-volume single robotic gynaecological surgeon in India—a feat matched by very few globally.

“This landmark achievement reinforces India’s emergence as a hub for robotic-assisted surgery, particularly in gynaecology,” said Apollo Hospitals in an official statement. “It also highlights Apollo’s commitment to high-precision, minimally invasive treatment for women, both in India and internationally.”

Setting a National Benchmark

Dr. Sangeeta Reddy, Joint Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals, applauded the feat, stating, “With this historic milestone, Dr. Rooma Sinha becomes the first in India and among the few globally to complete 1,000 robotic surgeries in benign gynaecology. More importantly, it reflects the lives transformed—thousands of women now pain-free and healthier due to the precision of robotic innovation.”

Millions of Indian women suffer from gynaecological conditions that impact their health, fertility, and quality of life. Robotic surgery offers a less invasive, more precise alternative, often leading to faster recovery and better clinical outcomes.

Empowering Women Through Innovation

“Every surgery has been a step toward restoring dignity and health in women’s lives,” said Dr. Rooma Sinha. “This milestone is not just about numbers. It reflects the trust of our patients, the strength of our institution, and the future we’re building for women’s healthcare in India.”

Dr. Sinha emphasized that robotic surgery is especially beneficial in complex cases such as large fibroids, severe endometriosis, obesity, or previous surgical complications. These conditions often compromise fertility and quality of life when treated through traditional open surgeries. “For women in reproductive age groups, robotic-assisted procedures offer better outcomes and faster recoveries,” she added.

Pioneering India’s Robotic Healthcare Future

Apollo Hospitals has been at the forefront of integrating robotic surgery into routine clinical practice, playing a key role in training surgical talent and supporting India’s broader MedTech and healthcare innovation goals.

The hospital’s Jubilee Hills unit in Hyderabad has also emerged as a preferred destination for international patients under the government’s Heal in India initiative. With growing global demand for technologically advanced, evidence-based, and cost-effective care, Apollo’s robotic surgery program is now serving patients from Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.

“This is not just a surgical milestone—it’s a testament to India’s evolving leadership in global healthcare,” the hospital stated.
