In the heart of Rajasthan, the Mother Milk Bank at Barmer District Hospital is creating a life-saving impact for newborn babies through an extraordinary act of kindness. More than 3,500 women, lovingly referred to as “Yashoda Mothers,” have donated breast milk to help infants who are unable to receive nourishment from their biological mothers.

Yashoda Mothers Donate Over 29,000 Units of Breast Milk at Barmer Hospital

Since its establishment on March 4, 2018, the Mother Milk Bank has witnessed overwhelming support from women across the region. According to hospital authorities:

  • 3,523 Yashoda Mothers have donated breast milk
  • 29,882 units of breast milk have been collected
  • 3,165 newborn babies have benefited from the donations
  • Milk is safely stored for up to six months at -19°C

The initiative has become a crucial support system for premature babies, orphaned infants, and newborns whose mothers are unable to breastfeed due to medical complications.

Hospital officials emphasized that every donated milk sample undergoes a comprehensive screening process before being used. The milk is tested for HIV and other infections, followed by careful processing and preservation to ensure complete safety for newborn consumption.

Superintendent of Barmer District Hospital, Dr Hanuman Ram Choudhary, praised the women for their remarkable contribution.
