More than 3,500 women, lovingly referred to as “Yashoda Mothers,” have donated breast milk to help infants who are unable to receive nourishment from their biological mothers.

Yashoda Mothers Donate Over 29,000 Units of Breast Milk at Barmer Hospital
Since its establishment on March 4, 2018, the Mother Milk Bank has witnessed overwhelming support from women across the region. According to hospital authorities:
- 3,523 Yashoda Mothers have donated breast milk
- 29,882 units of breast milk have been collected
- 3,165 newborn babies have benefited from the donations
- Milk is safely stored for up to six months at -19°C
The initiative has become a crucial support system for premature babies, orphaned infants, and newborns whose mothers are unable to breastfeed due to medical complications.
Yashoda Mothers Initiative at Barmer Hospital Follows Strict Safety Standards
Hospital officials emphasized that every donated milk sample undergoes a comprehensive screening process before being used. The milk is tested for HIV and other infections, followed by careful processing and preservation to ensure complete safety for newborn consumption.
The hospital follows strict medical protocols to maintain hygiene and quality standards at every stage.
Doctors Praise Yashoda Mothers at Barmer Hospital for Saving Lives
Superintendent of Barmer District Hospital, Dr Hanuman Ram Choudhary, praised the women for their remarkable contribution.
He said that motherhood goes beyond biological relationships and that a mother’s milk can become a ray of hope for another struggling family.
ANM Manju Bhati shared that:
- 220 units (6,600 ml) of milk are currently in storage
- Around 1,000 units were sent to Ajmer in 2018
- 12,220 units have already been utilized for community healthcare needs
