Rising Trend: More Bengaluru Women Opting for Cosmetic Gynaecology

However, doctors advise women to have realistic expectations and should be aware that with ageing and time, the impact of the treatment may reduce.

Bengaluru: Bengaluru is seeing a sharp rise in the number of women seeking cosmetic gynecological procedures. According to experts, more women are seeking these procedures to boost their confidence and improve their sexual well-being as a result of greater awareness and easier access to medical facilities.

Gynecologists say the majority of women want to use these treatments after giving birth. The body undergoes modifications during childbirth, and the muscles surrounding the vaginal area also relax. Women’s confidence is reduced as a result of these postpartum changes. The consultant obstetrician and gynecologist at a private hospital in Kengeri, Dr. Sowmya K N, remarked, “As a result, we receive the most cosmetology inquiries from new mothers.”

Vaginoplasty, The Most Popular Procedures

Among the procedures, vaginoplasty—to tighten and rejuvenate the vagina—remains the most sought-after. “We are seeing a steady rise in cosmetic gynaecology, with women opting for treatments not just for aesthetics but also for comfort and improved intimate health. Vaginoplasty, labiaplasty and laser-based rejuvenation are in high demand,” said Dr Rajendra S Gujjalanavar, senior consultant and HOD-plastic surgery at a private hospital in Marathahalli.

He stressed that such procedures are not merely about vanity but about “restoring quality of life and self-confidence.”

Other common treatments include:

  • Hymenoplasty – reconstruction of the hymen, sometimes requested after it is torn due to intercourse, cycling, or sports.

  • Hoodectomy – surgical shortening of the clitoral hood.

  • Labiaplasty – reshaping or improving the appearance of the labia.

Risks Involve in the Treatments

These treatments require a surgical procedure and that comes with certain risks. Like any surgery, there is a possibility of infection, scarring, or blood clots, though the pain is usually minimal,” said Dr Jyoti Kala, consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist at a private hospital on Sarjapur Road.

For women who prefer less invasive methods, non-surgical options like vaginal brightening using chemical peels or laser treatments are also available.

However, doctors advise women to have realistic expectations and should be aware that with ageing and time, the impact of the treatment may reduce. While cosmetic gynaecology can provide improvement and satisfaction, women should understand that while these procedures can give good results, the changes are not entirely permanent.
