Super Traveller Mom Takes Daily Flights for Work, Says It’s Cost-Effective

Malaysia-based Indian-origin woman, Racheal Kaur, is being called a ‘super traveller’ for her unique work commute. Balancing her home and office life seamlessly, Kaur travels by flight five days a week for work. Surprisingly, she claims this routine is not only affordable but also allows her to spend more time with her children.

Kaur, who works as an Assistant Manager in AirAsia’s finance operations department, revealed in a viral interview with Channel News Asia (CNA) that she commutes daily from Malaysia to Singapore by flight. She previously spent around $474 (₹42,000) per month on travel, but now her expenses have reduced to $316 (₹28,000) per month.

A Daily Routine Unlike Any Other

Talking about her schedule, Kaur shared that she wakes up at 4 AM, gets ready, and leaves home by 5 AM. She then drives to Penang Airport, where she boards a 6:30 AM flight to Kuala Lumpur. By 7:45 AM, she reaches her office. After completing her work, she returns home by 8 PM.

According to Google Maps, the total distance she covers daily is around 700 km. Despite flying five days a week, she insists that her travel expenses have decreased compared to when she lived closer to her office.

How She Utilizes Travel Time

During her flights, Kaur enjoys some “me time” by listening to music and admiring nature. Once she lands, she walks for about 5 to 10 minutes from the airport to her office. She prefers working in the office rather than from home, as she finds it easier to complete tasks surrounded by colleagues.

Kaur emphasized that this travel routine allows her to be with her children every night. “I have two children, aged 12 and 11. As they grow up, I feel a mother should be around them. I find relief in being able to see them every night,” she shared.

Prioritizing Family Over Convenience

Initially, Kaur had rented a house near her office in Kuala Lumpur, but the high cost and limited visits to her children (once a week) made her rethink her decision. She opted to take daily flights instead, despite bearing the travel expenses herself. However, as an airline employee, she receives significant discounts from AirAsia, making her unique commute financially viable.

Many people are amazed by her unusual travel routine—some praise her dedication, while others find it crazy. But for Kaur, this lifestyle brings the perfect balance between her career and family.
