Woman Gives Birth to Four Babies at Once; Mother and Newborns Safe

Doctors described this as an extremely rare case, occurring once in about 1 in 10 lakh to 5 crore deliveries.

Koregaon: A rare medical event took place at the Krantisinh Nana Patil General Hospital in Satara when a 28-year-old woman from Saswad (Pune district) gave birth to four babies at the same time on Sunday evening. Both the mother and her newborns are safe.

According to reports, the woman, identified as Kajal Vikas Khakrodia (28), had come to Koragaon’s Laxminagar area two days ago to visit relatives. Families from Gujarat engaged in selling household items have been living in the area for years. On Sunday, when Khakrodia experienced severe abdominal pain, she was first taken to Arjun Hospital in Koregaon. After examination, Dr. Nitin Jadhav advised shifting her to Satara’s Krantisinh Nana Patil Hospital for advanced care.

Doctors Perform an Emergency C-Section

At the hospital, doctors observed she was in critical condition with breathing difficulty and intense labor pains. On further investigation, it was discovered that she was carrying four babies in her womb. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, gynecologist Dr. Sadashiv Desai decided to perform an emergency C-section.

During the surgery, she successfully delivered four babies—first a girl, then a boy, followed by two more girls. Their birth weights are reported to be 1,100 g, 1,200 g, 1,300 g, and 1,600 g respectively.

The hospital’s gynecologists Dr. Sadashiv Desai, Dr. Tushar Masram, anesthesiologist Dr. Neelam Kadam, Dr. Deepali Rathode-Patil, pediatricians and staff all worked together to successfully perform this difficult surgery.

Doctors described this as an extremely rare case, occurring once in about 1 in 10 lakh to 5 crore deliveries. The successful outcome has been widely appreciated across the district.

Third Delivery for the Mother

This was Khakrodia’s third delivery. Earlier, she had delivered twins (a boy and a girl) during her first pregnancy, followed by a single girl in her second. This time, she delivered four babies at once.
