International Women’s Day: Essential Medical Tests for Women After 40

International Women’s Day is being celebrated across the world to encourage women to achieve success in their respective fields and lead a healthy and prosperous life. However, due to a lack of awareness, most women tend to neglect their health. Establishing an empowered society requires women to prioritize their well-being.

As women get older, they can be vulnerable to certain diseases. Health awareness is a fundamental responsibility for every individual. Fortunately, fulfilling this duty has become easier with the availability of various medical tests and technologies that can detect diseases at an early stage. Dr. Neelkamal Kapoor, Senior Physician, told Dainik Bhaskar that women above the age of 40 should prioritize certain medical check-ups annually. Based on a doctor’s recommendation, some tests may need to be conducted every two years.

Pap Smear and HPV Test
This test is crucial for the early detection of cervical cancer. Even if the disease is in its initial stages, early diagnosis can significantly aid in timely treatment. Women should consider getting this test at least once after 40, as it plays a vital role in safeguarding reproductive health.International Women’s Day

Mammography
Mammography detects breast cancer at a stage when it cannot be identified by touch or self-examination. Early detection makes the treatment process simpler and increases the chances of a long and healthy life.

Note: Always consult a doctor before undergoing Pap Smear or Mammography.

Lipid Profile
Increased lipid levels in the blood can lead to heart disease and several other health problems. It is recommended to get this test done at least once a year to receive timely medical advice and prevent related ailments.

Blood Sugar Test
This test helps detect diabetes or pre-diabetic conditions. Identifying diabetes at an early stage allows for easy management through diet and lifestyle changes.

Bone Density Test
Calcium is a key component of bones, and its levels may decline in women due to hormonal changes with age. A bone density test evaluates bone strength, enabling doctors to suggest appropriate treatment if necessary.

Thyroid Profile
Unexplained fatigue, weight fluctuations, and irregular heartbeats may signal thyroid hormone imbalances. It is advisable to check thyroid hormones (T3, T4, and TSH) at least once to detect any irregularities and start treatment if needed.

Regular health check-ups empower women to take charge of their well-being, ensuring a healthier and longer life. We wish you all the women Happy “International women’s day.
