Modular NICU will start in Cama Hospital in December

Cama Hospital’s newborn modular intensive care unit will open in December. This cutting-edge NICU will now aid in the provision of infection-free care. The increase in the number of beds in the new NICU will provide a lot of relief to the doctors and family members. Many times family members have to travel from one hospital to another to get a NICU bed, as government and BMC hospitals frequently run out of capacity. Doctors have to deal with both emergency situations and patients who are receiving routine care at the hospital.

Moduler NICU

Premature Delivery Care

For the past 25 to 30 years, there has been a pressing demand for an advanced NICU at Cama Hospital, which has now finally been fulfilled with the set up of a modular NICU. According to Hospital Superintendent Dr. Tushar Palve, the hospital, renowned for gynecology and obstetrics, often handles cases of premature deliveries where newborns weigh as little as 500 to 700 grams. These fragile infants require specialized care in the NICU for one to two months until their weight increases to 1.5 to 2 kilograms.

Improve Infection Control

With the preparation of this new modular NICU, more patients will be admitted to the hospital and also improve infection control. According to Dr. Palve, there will be 21 beds available in the new NICU, compared to the current 7 beds. The work on the new NICU was started 5 to 6 months ago, which cost Rs. 2.4 crore.
