Florida Mom Delivers Hospital’s Largest Baby — Nearly 14 Pounds (6 kg)!

According to hospital officials, Annan is believed to be the largest baby ever delivered there.

Florida: Daniella Hines got more than a surprise in the delivery room, when she welcomed a baby boy weighing a whopping 13 pounds, 15 ounces (6 kg), nearly twice the size of an average newborn.

“He was the talk of the maternity ward!” Hines, 40, told her son, Annan, born on Sept. 3 at BayCare’s St. Joseph’s Hospital-South in Riverview, Florida. According to hospital officials, Annan is believed to be the largest baby ever delivered there.

Genetics Plays a Big Role

The Hines family is no stranger to big babies. Daniella, who stands 6 feet tall, and her husband, Andre Sr., who is 6’2″, also welcomed their first son, Andre Jr., at 12 pounds, 11 ounces. Genetics, she suspects, played a big role in Annan’s size.

Although Daniella was diagnosed with gestational diabetes during pregnancy, she maintained strict glucose control — a key factor, since the condition can sometimes lead to larger babies.

Her C-section, however, felt different this time.
“I remember thinking, ‘What are they pulling out of me?’ I felt so much pressure,” she laughed. “Then everybody started coming in because it’s not every day you see an almost 14-pound baby pop out. He was like a little celebrity.”

When she finally saw Annan, she couldn’t believe her eyes:
“He was so big. I was like, ‘Whose baby is this? He came out of me?'”

Now home, Hines describes her newborn as “really chill” — except when he’s hungry, which she says is totally understandable.

“We didn’t expect such a big blessing,” Hines said. “But it’s just more to love!”

In 2023, a woman in Brazil gave birth to a 16-pound (7 kg) baby boy, who measured 2 feet long. The Guinness World Record, however, belongs to a baby born in Aversa, Italy in 1955 who weighed 22 pounds, 8 ounces (10 kg)— the heaviest ever to survive infancy.
